Münz Turm in Hall - Mint Tower in Hall

Today, we took the train to Hall in Tirol to where in the 16th century most of the european coins were minted. Silver was delivered in tons from the nearby city of Schwaz.

We saw many old minting machines. The first water driven minting machine was also invented in Tirol and made its jouney through Europe - just like modern Ex-Pats, those specialists minted coins on demand where ever needed.

One coin made its way to the present time. It was called "Taler" (wich means, from the valley coming) - it kept its name for centuries to come and even the Americans took over the name, but could not pronounce it correctly and so became the "Dollar". Did you know that?????

To be very tirolean, we had a Chawarma at a turkish little restaurant and because I am so used to carry a suitcase around with me, I bought the biggest one possible and dragged it around with me in the train once more (sale, very colourful and biiiiiig).

Now I go back and watch the Holländer against the Urugis playing foot ball.
